Lajpat Nagar
By property vertical

Lajpat Nagar is a suburb in the south of Delhi. It is named in honor of Lala Lajpat Rai.The suburb is divided into four parts: Lajpat Nagar I, II, III (north of the Ring Road) and IV (south of the Ring Road). Housing colonies like Amar Colony, Dayanand Colony, Double Storey (also known as Nirmal Puri) and Vinobha Puri are also located in it.

Lajpat Nagar was developed in 1950’s and most of its early residents were immigrants from Pakistan. The ethnic background of these immigrants was Punjabi and Sindhi.

They were hardworking individuals who started small business (like Technical Trading Corporation owned by Surbhi Handa) and have some of the big stores in the Central Market.

At present, it is common to see individuals from different parts of India, Afghanistan, and African countries. The houses were usually single story in the beginning, but now most of the houses are multistories. Lajpat Nagar IV (especially double storey) has turned into a major commercial joint.Lajpat Nagar is well connected by Delhi Transport Corporation bus services, but it’s not comnected by the Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System. It is close to Moolchand Hospital and All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The educational institutions in the area include Balwant Rai Mehta Vidya Bhawan Senior Secondary School, Tagore International School, Blue bells School, Frank Anthony School, Friends Tuition Centre, Sanatam Dharam School, and Government Schools in Lajpat Nagar I and II.

Lajpat Nagar has an old Dehli market with a Haldiram’s restaurant. The market also has a comprehensive collection of ready -to -wear clothing as well as fabric, laces, buttons and many other stitching supplies. It even

features some of New Delhi’s ritziest home furnishings stores. A quaint fixture are the Tibetan ladies that sell freshly steamed dumplings called “momos”—-steamed right in front of you in cane basket contraptions. It’s well connected with the new fly-overs with other parts of Delhi.

It’s mostly dominated by Punjabi immigrants from Pakistan after partition. It’s considered as one of the best places to get everything under one roof as far as shopping is concerned. Most of the residential areas surrounding it have become commercialized and you will find shops and offices on the ground floor and basements of the houses.

Lajpat Nagar 3 on the ring road has some of the swankiest fashion stores and electronic showrooms in South Delhi. It has sadly become over congested and is getting run for the money from the ansal plaza mall, etc. plus new mall projects could spell the end of this market.

Also a lot of demolitions have helped to reduce the congestion in this market. However the survival of this market in its present form is limited as fresh Supreme Court directives have come in, to remove encroachments etc.

Shop and never drop. You will spend all your money yet there will be more that you would like to shop at Lajpat Nagar. Basically a market area, you will find all uptown accessories and clothings here. The market is quiet fashionable and one of the oldest in India.

Lajpat Nagar falls amidst the two popular region of South Delhi - Greater Kailash and South Extension. It is one of the most popular commercial areas of South Delhi as it houses number of shops from branded to retails. You will find every kind of shop in this area. Lajpat Nagar region is a well known residential area. It is just a dream for every one to get a house in this area as it may amount to corers of rupees. The regions houses schools, restaurants, and also provide health services like hospitals and chemists to the residents as well outsiders.

From commercial centres to housing from restaurants to resorts, Vatika Group has now made its foray into the retail mall sector. Located on the premium Mehrauli - Gurgaon road, right opposite the First India Place, the mall would be one of its kind in India, claims the group. Designed by international architects, the mall will be ready for occupation in March 2005. The comcept: to change the layout from un-organised retailing to an organized one, the mall would bring in retailers from Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, and Gaffar market into the organised set up of the mall retailing. Vatika has already signed up with a few retailers from these areas and are plunging for more. This mall would focus on women and children. Such concepts have been quite popular in areas like Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar. With 2 lakh Sq. ft of area under its coverage, the mall will have a triple-level basement.
